A cost of ownership analysis of batteries in all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles

Abstract The ever-faster transformation of road vehicles from traditional fuel engines to electric motors, is leading increasingly widespread research on and development related infrastructures. In this context, article addresses the cost aspect batteries owner’s perspective. Specifically, it proposes an analysis optimal usage in order maximize benefit-cost ratio battery replacement intervals. analyze degradation, various tests were utilized for both a full-battery vehicle (BEV) plug-in hybrid (PHEV). results demonstrate greater wear PHEV when under charge-sustaining mode, that is, using combustion engine, while driving with frequent starts stops. On other hand, degradation costs BEV are generally close every scenario, which main parameter affecting average daily mileage.
